This is another short post, but I’ve noted a lot of recent twitter and forum activities, on various sites, where people seem to some how be “slaves to the machine”.
They can’t possibly leave their job, because, well, they have too much debt.
They can’t possibly chase their dreams any more, because they have too much responsibility.
They can’t rock the boat, because they might get fired.
I have some advice, if I may: grow up.
If you have too much debt, reduce it. If that means not eating out for 9 months, so be it. You are in control, you can do what needs to be done, and frankly, only you.
If you have stopped chasing your dreams, it’s because you have stopped, not because someone or something has stopped you. Again, you are in control, not some corporate HR person. Have a plan, and execute it.
If you’ve stopped rocking the boat in your current job, trust me, it’s time to move on. The real truth is, while people who rock the boat scare employers, a little, they are also the people who drive change, and help take companies in new directions; directions that will often save the company in the future. If you have an employer that is scared of change, and doesn’t like it’s people rocking the boat, you’re already working for a corporation that’s dead, so the sooner you move on to another one the better – before the pink slip arrives.
The take away: Simply, you control your life and your future. Sure, unforeseen circumstances can knock you for six, but, again YOU CONTROL YOUR LIFE – be prepared – have savings, for instance. Clear your debts. Set yourself free to do what you need. And anyone who tells you that you can’t, is someone you don’t need in your life any more.
